As an original artist, in 2022 Honer released the critically-acclaimed duo album Recordings from the Åland Islands on International Anthem with synthesist Jeremiah Chiu. The album combines field recordings with improvisation on synthesizer and viola to recreate a specific feeling of space, time, and location.
The album was met with substantial critical acclaim upon release. At the time, Pitchfork expounded considerably upon the music’s sense of place and mystery: “In Chiu and Honer’s music, the natural world is half human conception, half unknowable Other: Spend enough time in it, and you will sense that intelligence, fleet and mysterious, moving just beneath the surface. Something is alive in their work, and it feels like it’s always rounding the next corner, just out of your reach.”
Marta is currently promoting her new record with headline performances in the US, Netherlands and Italy, as well as playing as an opening act for Stereolab and Tortoise on select performances throughout the west coast and UK.
In 2023 the duo combined forces with legendary French musician Ariel Kalma after the BBC Radio show Late Junction reached out to commission new work. The result eventually evolved into a larger collaboration, culminating in the full length album The Closest Thing to Silence, which was released via International Anthem and praised as “heady, vibrant, and mysterious” by Complex Distractions.
The duo released a new album called Different Rooms in July 2025 on International Anthem. The collection is an expansion of their ever-developing sound, and features contributions from Jeff Parker and Josh Johnson, as well as artwork from Sam Prekop.
